About

The internet can be a powerful tool for nonprofits and community groups. A well designed website can fill multiple roles; press office, organizing meeting, debate and discussion center. A poorly designed website can drain resources away from the organization and not provide much return for the investment.

Movement Studio offers low-cost web design and maintenance to help your organization grow into a bigger and more effective presence. Our sites are built on free, open-source software and are specifically designed to be used by individuals who have little experience with internet technologies.

The founders of Movement Studio have helped develop websites for organizations and businesses across the progressive spectrum. We are committed to building a peaceful, more sustainable world and we look forward to working with you!

Dave Reed and Andrew Lyons founded Movement Studio in late 2005 to help small nonprofit organizations establish more effective internet identities.

Dave Reed

Dave began to experiment with website design in 1996 in college building small sites for local bands and for shows on his college radio station. These sites were almost universally described as ugly and unnecessary. Dave got better and has now helped several organizations and individuals develop attractive and engaging websites. He studies history and politics and will graduate soon [sic].

He blogs occasionally about international politics and other stuff at his personal site, davereed.org

Andrew Lyons

Andrew started designing websites when, while working as a copy editor for a daily Gannett newspaper in the middle of the night, he decided that other copy editors might enjoy an online forum where could swap stories, commiserate, rant rave about their jobs and discuss how to make journalism a little better.

He was immediately introduced to a wide variety of individuals he’d just as well have done without, learned that the shortcomings of mainstream media come not only from its corporate nature, but also from people who would want to work for such a thing, and promptly killed the site, all the wiser about the more dubious qualities of our emerging “Global Village.”

He has since then gone on create websites and do design work for for a wide variety of productive, intelligent, happy people working on various sundry projects. His other pursuits include coffee, photography and writing. His first novel, Italian Greyhound, is ostensibly forthcoming.
